Maize or makki ka atta have many health benefits. It's highly beneficial for kids and pregnant women as it contains many nutrients and vitamins. It is great for improving vision, curing anemia, constipation and many more. It works as magical medicine during cough and cold.
Kids love to have something sweet. So I gave it a sweet and healthy twist by adding loads of nuts. Sharing this yummy halwa being cherished by my kids during winters.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup makki ka atta (maize flour, cornmeal)
1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter)
2 cups water
1 cup sugar
few strands of saffron (kesar) (optional)
1/2 cup nuts of your choice
METHOD
Melt ghee in heavy bottomed pan, add makki and saute on low flame till fragrant and little brown in colour. This will take around 10 minutes.
Once it is aromatic add water, stirring continuously. After adding water use whisker as it will remove lumps if any and will make it smooth and creamy. Add saffron at this stage. You can soak saffron in 1/4 cup warm water or warm milk, I forgot to soak it so added straight.
As soon water is well incorporated add sugar and mix well. Cook on medium flame and keep stirring till sugar is melted and mixed well. Cook for another 5 minutes stirring continuously.
Add nuts of your choice. Serve hot.
